35 years ago today, on a sunny spring morning, my 2nd baby arrived on the planet.
Today I’m celebrating 35 years of being Rosie’s mom… and marveling at the reality that 35 years can go that freakin’ fast!
Truthfully I don’t FEEL all that much older than 35 now. Well, ok sometimes my knees and shoulders do. Inside my mind though, I feel like I’m maybe in my 40s.
Except, now I see myself with way more love and compassion than I did at 30, 40 and even 50.
In addition to the perspective gained from the years, I notice now in my 60s that memories of past years are sort of like an accordion. They fold in on each other. One minute I’m remembering a funny moment from last week, and then suddenly I’m back to 1977 watching my mom dance to The Eagles in our living room.
It’s like a rich tapestry I get to unfold whenever I want, layers and layers of love and memory.
But, back to that birthing morning… Rosie burst into the world with the typical blast of Aries speed and energy. I awoke at 4:30 am wondering if these pains were real contractions,
then I was holding my newborn in my arms by 8:30.
In the blur that intervened, my husband cooked pancakes while I implored him to call the midwives. I am lucky to have birthed both my babies at home, so I was hands and knees in the living room wondering if I’d made a huge mistake in saying I didn’t want pain drugs.
Since he’d been told early labor would take hours, my husband wanted to know if I was sure he should call.
“CALL THEM!!” I yelled.
Contractions surged through me as I waited.
And we waited.
My husband, still sure I was just being dramatic, futzed with finding the right CD to play.
Finally our midwives arrived, laughing about being stuck on our country road behind a huge herd of cows that were crossing from field to field.
When they heard me groaning, one quickly checked me and said, “OK then. Let’s just move you into the bedroom.”
Minutes later I was pushing - even when they told me to hold it - and out came Rosie. That girl wasn’t waiting for anything.
Sure glad those cows didn’t take any longer!
Happy birthday to my baby girl!
Where were you 35 years ago today?
What’s changed in you since 1991?
Where have you grown?
How has your life been reinvented?
And what next step are you ready to take?

Happy Birthday Rosie🎂🥳
I am so glad to see you! I am currently 66, and wonder if I am going to see Social Security is going to become a program of the past. I am just hating this Trump Presidency. I am praying for that impeachment thing to happen. I am still at Arcata Profloor, as an owner. I am so glad to see you active on the web.
