Hey Sarah, are you talking about me?! This resonated so much with me, as much as I hate to admit it, but I came by "taking responsibility" for everyone and everything around me. The one person I never did take into consideration was myself and the price I was paying. It has taken me more than 65 years to realize that and learn to choose myself...finally. A long time coming, but with it has come the kind of freedom that is exhilarating. I can't wait to read your book!
I’m in the same boat Bela! But it’s never too late to learn to choose ourselves, right? I wonder if this has to do with being given too much responsibility as a child. I know they was the case for me. I’m so glad this spoke to you.
I think you may be onto something, Sarah. When children are given more responsibility than they're developmentally ready for, they can begin to equate their worth with taking care of others. Over time, choosing themselves can feel unfamiliar or even uncomfortable.
